The share of Russian online retail reached 10.9%

The Russian e-commerce market showed excellent development results in the first six months of 2020. The fundamental reasons for the growth were the COVID-19 pandemic and the severe restrictions on offline trading introduced in the country against its background. In a certain period, this almost wholly reoriented the market to online.

A sharp, abrupt transition to e-com in April-May and an increase in the number of buyers who either just entered the market or have become more active revealed serious problems of Russian retail unprepared for current realities. Customer support, order processing, the quality of the content offered, logistics, competition with marketplaces – all this turned out to be the “Achilles’ heel” of the body of Russian retail. And the problems with these components of online trading need to be addressed in the short term.
